Water is the basis of life. From the rivers that cut through the earth to the seas that stretch to the horizon, it connects and nourishes all living beings. The flow of water evokes a movement of an unstoppable energy, similar to that of love – both are difficult to confine to a specific shape or concept. Like a river that alters its course, love changes, grows and adapts.
When we love, we feel like we’re part of something bigger than ourselves, exactly like a drop of water that melts into the ocean. Love is a force of nature that’s hard to control, but it always finds a way to express itself, in the same way that the water that seeps into rock always finds its way through.

Water in the Art Deco collection
Metaphorically, water is similar to art in that both can be purifying and transformative. In many cultures, water represents an element of purification, a means for washing away fears and limitations. In much the same way, art helps to liberate and transform us, and in fact, all artists are attempting to shape their inner selves when they create.
Art is born from the need to express something personal and intangible, an idea or a feeling that finds a way to reveal itself through colors, sounds or words. Every artist is like a river – once the flow begins, it can’t be stopped.

Water is both fragile and powerful. It’s transparent and can be dispelled with a single breath but over time, it can burrow into rock and shape the earth. Love and art also share this duality. Throughout the world, the city of Venice symbolizes both love, as the quintessential city of romance, and art for the countless works found there, and perhaps because the city itself is an artistic miracle, rising and resting on water every day.
